3rd Region Hoops- The Ohio County boys basketball team is now looking for its next head coach. Yesterday (Thursday 3/28) Decker announced he’s resigning from his position after 15 total seasons (3 as an assistant, 12 as the Head Coach) as a coach in the Eagle program. Ohio County, a “Blue Blood” in the 3rd Region, has a rich tradition of High School basketball, a passionate fanbase with high expectations. It’s not an easy job, and if anyone tells you otherwise, tell them to ask around. Paul Decker has seen a tremendous amount of success in his long-time career in Hartford. He’s had a hand in 3 of the schools 4 regional championships – 1 as a player. 1 as an assistant. 1 as a Head Coach. One could label the Decker name as a “Legacy Name” in the history of Eagle Athletics, with the standard simply, WIN! Decker was in his 2nd run as the Head Coach of the program after being away for several years. He spent the last 3 seasons as the Leader, going (60-30) in that span including a (19-13) mark this season. Decker stated “It was time for me to step back. I just felt like it was best for my family. I have spent 19 years in this program as a player and/or coach and will continue to be around the program in a different role as a school administrator.” Ohio County Athletic Director Matt Brigance, when asked to comment on Decker’s resignation, said “I have had the privilege of working and coaching alongside Paul for 7 years. We have had a lot of fun and success along the way and I will definitely miss coaching with the big guy. He has been a great leader and coach for our program. He truly loves the game of basketball and especially Ohio County Basketball, which has led to his success on and off the court in this community.” Paul Decker is one of the 3rd Regions most respected coaches and has always led with class, kindness and competitiveness. A new chapter of Ohio County Basketball has officially begun.
