Head, Lady Purples enter the offseason STILL the standard.

3rd Region Hoops- It was an odd & unfamiliar time for girls basketball in the 4th Region this past season. Bowling Green has simply dominated the region in recent years, however, this season, with the emergence of Franklin-Simpson after the addition of LaReesha Cawthorn, who transferred from Russellville, it seemed like people were quick to write the Lady Purples off. Franklin-Simpson had a tremendous year, including winning the regular season matchup VS Bowling Green by a final score of 51-33. They were, by many media who cover the 4th, the favorite to win the whole thing… until they weren’t. Bowling Green would defeat The Lady Wildcats in the Regional Final Four 52-39 & would go on to capture the 4th Region Championship for the 5th consecutive year & and 6th Regional title in 7 years. Calvin Head has long solidified himself as one of the 4th Regions best historically – You CANNOT argue that – causing, yet again, those around the region who’ve been chomping at the bit, waiting impatiently for someone to come along and knock the Lady Purples off the pedestal to have to endure another long offseason of figuring out what they have to do, to do that. When you establish a level of dominance and go on a run like the current run Bowling Green is on, people will go the extra mile to seek out any bit of hope that the run will come to an end. There are levels to winning at an elite level & there’s so much that goes into winning. There are less than a handful of teams in Kentucky west of Elizabethtown that will play a schedule like the Lady Purples do on a yearly basis. Scheduling tough is tried and proven by the most successful programs in the state. Coach Head takes his team everywhere and will play anyone. That alone, has played a major part in achieving the current dominance when it matters the most. It’s no secret, Bowling Green Athletics has its share of “haters” across the board, but the results speak for itself, especially within the girls basketball program. On paper, there are a couple teams in the 4th Region that should challenge the Lady Purples once the regular season comes around again, but as our good friend Ric Flair says; “If you want to be the man, you have to beat the man”… And until someone does it, put your mortgage on a Calvin Head led program. Is it impossible? Absolutely not. Does the gap seem like its closer now than its been in years? arguably so, but why don’t we embrace the excellence that is Bowling Green Lady Purple basketball. The target has become “par the course” for Bowling Green and if you think this current version of Bowling Green wants to be the group that gets knocked off, you’re border line insane. Could next year be the year? Yes, but what more has to happen for people to give credit where it’s due? Appreciate the standard. Respect the results. Celebrate the success. Bowling Green Lady Purples basketball.
