The Ty Price Effect!

3rd Region Hoops- What if I told you that Butler County, Kentucky would send shockwaves and leave the 3rd Region in awe? Yes, BUTLER COUNTY. Motown. The home of Junior Guard, Ty Price. Price grew up wearing Butler County blue but elected to transfer away for his 8th-9th grade school years. A move would happen after Price’s freshman year that, little did the beautiful people of Butler County know, would quite literally flip that place UPSIDE DOWN. Price, who just finished up the school year at South Warren, playing under HC Jason Holland, averaged 17ppg, hit nearly 100 3’s in that season & led the charge for a Spartan team that always had Bowling Green & Warren Central lurking and preventing them from accomplishing any kind of big time accomplishments. After two seasons, Holland left South Warren to become the Head Coach at Graves County. When that happened, Price’s desire to return home became very strong. Ultimately, that was the end result. Ty would enroll at Butler County and rejoin his childhood friends and teammates. A class that is LOADED with talent. With Ty Price returning home in the summer, The program was about to be flipped on it’s head. The expectations ramped up tremendously with him on campus. After a Regional Final Four appearance in the 2022-23 season, The expectations would again, increase, and it was now, regardless of what anyone says, a championship or bust for that locker room. Lawson Rice, a surefire ALL Region 1st teamer, Briar Griffin returning home for his junior year after spending the last couple of seasons at Bowling Green High, Justin Castlen, Trevor Deweese, and of course, Ty Price, one of the most prolific scorers this region has ever seen. You put all of them together, and that makes for a legit title contender. Price has broken several 3rd Region records, became the school’s all time leading scorer and would orchestrate what will go down as one of the best small town stories in this regions’ history – Butler County. 3rd Region Champions for the first time in school history. Read that again. Butler County. Champs. History. WHAT?! That’s the world we live in, as we know it. Ty Price put on an absolute SHOW over the last week on the 3rd Region’s biggest stage, the Owensboro Sportscenter. Price averaged 36ppg, 6rpg, 4apg, 2spg and shot 49% from the field, 47% from 3, and 92% from the charity strike. Think about those numbers… That’s nearly 50/40/90… That’s unheard of. We mentioned show., Obviously we’re not saying Ty Price is better than Apollo great, Rex Chapman, but the Sportscenter hasn’t seen a show like the one we just watched, since Rex Chapman. You ask opposing coaches around the region, & they all tell you the same thing; there’s simply nothing you can do with him. He gets to his spots, he scores at all 3 levels, he, though often criticized, makes life easier for his teammates, and put the entire county on his back and carried them to heights they’d only dreamed of reaching. A program that hadn’t played in a regional title game since 1962, went into last night’s game VS O’Cath as the heavy favorite to… MAKE HISTORY. You’ve seen it all over social media, but Butler County shut down this past week to embrace this team, knowing this kind of run may not ever happen again. We’re told if you head south on I-165, you’ll begin to see smoke clouds throughout Butler County due to the partying done last night (Joking of course.. Maybe?) As the Sportscenter was painted BLUE, you could not help but appreciate the fanbase & community as they with each passing second, could taste HISTORY. Butler County has done exactly what the rest of us should do; EMBRACE TY PRICE & APPRECIATE great talent. The Bears will take on Evangel Christian next week at Rupp Arena.
