3rd Region Hoops— Only 2 remain standing in the 2023-24 girls basketball season in the 3rd Region. All the work put in during the offseason, all the sweat, tears & everything that comes with basketball season all lead to ONE PLACE. ONE DAY. With ONE PRIZE on the line. To be crowned the GIRLS 3rd Region Champion at the Owensboro Sportscenter. Today’s contest features 2 teams from the 9th district. Two teams that simply do NOT like each other & 2 teams that have had all out WARS over the last two seasons. OHS squeaked by a really, REALLY good Breckinridge County team in a game that went all the way to the end. A game you hated to see end because of the emotion, passion & meaning behind it! O’Cath has had a much easier road to this point, posting dominating wins over Grayson County & Meade County, but let’s be honest, that’s no discredit to this POWERHOUSE that wears green. O’Cath entered the year as the perineal favorite & have long been expected to repeat as Regional Champs & give HC Michael Robertson his 7th Regional championship. The last time these two teams met was in the 9th District Title game that went into OT where O’Cath edged the Lady Devils! You have to think OHS has been chomping at the bit to look across the gym and see green, just one more time! O’Cath has been the standard of the region under Coach Robertson & most around the region are defeated mentally when they see that Aces Green, OHS however, doesn’t seem to be intimidated in the slightest bit. O’Cath will have to win today, without its senior leader & KABC Player of the Year Hailee Johnson. Let’s be clear though, the Lady Aces still have PLENTY of talent. Karmin Riley, Delaney Cooper, Aubrey Randolph, Jenna Krampe, and an onslaught of talented youth coming off the bench still give O’Cath the edge! OHS played for a regional championship last year. They’ve defeated O’Cath during the regular season for 2 straight years but can they get over the hump and claim the big one? O’Cath has an elite championship pedigree & that goes a long way when it gets to this point in the season. There will be no shortage of talent today. The aforementioned crop of Lady Aces & the fearless Lady Devils; Shalyn Sprinkles, Alyrica Hughes, Unique Carter-Swanagan, Heleina John & more give HC Jansen Locher the ability to cut the Sportscenter nets down this afternoon. This has the makings of being an instant classic & we can’t wait to tip it off!
