3rd Region Hoops— The 3rd Region has saw some of its communities suffer through some incredibly difficult circumstances as of late. Yesterday AM The McLean Co Lady Cougars basketball program & the entire McLean Co community suffered a tragedy that nobody wants to have to endure. Early Tuesday AM, word began to trickle throughout the area of a fatal car crash in Livermore. Shortly after, McLean County junior Sarah Johnson received a phone call that forever changed her families life! Sarah received word that her mother, Gaye Johnson was involved in the crash & that she had passed away as a result. As the day progressed, an abundance of outpouring filtered throughout social media & the community. Through that, you could tell the impact Gaye had on people throughout McLean Co. Gaye, who worked in the McLean Co school system for 20+ years, served as a great example to countless students and families. A day filled with heartbreak not only in the community but inside the McLean Co Woman’s BB program resulted in the cancellation of the McLean Co/Apollo game as the family, community, the girls basketball program & the entire McLean Co athletics department figures out how to navigate through such unfortunate times. Sarah Johnson, who sustained a season ending ankle injury last season was slowly getting back into good standings on the basketball court & finding herself again within the program, and now this happens. Just like in any other tragedy, this thing is so much more than athletics, & in times like this, you are reminded of the importance of COMMUNITY! It’s also in times like this, you see the true identity of PEOPLE. The competitive side of things go out the door & who’s trying to be who doesn’t mean ANYTHING. The amount of concern, compassion & prayers being sent to the folks of McLean Co & the Johnson family shows why the 3rd Region is GREAT! This region is filled with first class people who jump without hesitation to rally behind those hurting & this situation is no different. As you continue to pray for & think of all those impacted by this tragedy, the Johnson Family has released a Go Fund Me account to help with expenses going forward. There’s no way to prepare for these kinds of situations & no child should ever have to lay a parent to rest at a young age. Below is a link to help relieve a tremendous financial burden from the Johnson family! If you can at all possible help this family, do so! County lines don’t exist during these times & the entire region is behind Sarah Johnson, her family & the entire McLean Co community. (See details of the Johnson Family GoFundMe below)
In Memory of Gaye Johnson.
