3rd Region Hoops— an interesting matchup in the GIRLS 3rd Region All “A” tournament takes place in Calhoun tonight as the Hancock Co Lady Hornets take on McLean Co. McLean Co (3-8) has had to navigate through hard times through the first half of the season, losing its best player, Sarah Miller (14ppg, 7rpg) to a season ending knee injury, but is (1-0) in the struggling 10th District & is smack dab in the mix of claiming a district title. Coach Ryan Groves has himself a future star & one of the best 8th Graders in the region, Anna Miller who’s leading the team in scoring at 8ppg. Ava Lannum & Kenadi Level have also been asked to produce for the Lady Cougars and have been solid on the year! Hancock (4-9), just like McLean has had to navigate without one of its best players in Lily Roberts who’s expected to make her debut this month after sustaining a knee injury in softball. Senior Ella House is undoubtedly one of the most slept on players in the region & is in the midst of a very solid season for HC Kevin Husk, averaging 15ppg & 7rpg. The Lady Hornets too, have a future all region type player in 8th Grader Sophia Newby who’s averaging 9ppg & 6rpg. Freshman Ansley House has been a solid contributor as well. This has the makings to be a really tight contest but the winner gets the privilege of playing O’Cath for the Regional All “A” title. Both teams will look to start 2024 on a good note and get a program boost! Tip Off is scheduled for 6pm.
