3rd Region Hoops— Our 3RH Game of The Week features O’Cath & Daviess Co but that isn’t the only big time showdown around the region. There’s a really, REALLY big game in the 10th District between bitter rivals & traditional powers, Ohio County & Muhlenberg County in a Boy/Girl DoubleHeader in Hartford. Muhlenberg County GIRLS come into tonight’s matchup (0-4, 0-1) with Ohio County sitting at (2-3) on the year. Both teams come in on losing streaks & Muhlenberg County dropping a district matchup VS McLean County. This will be Ohio County’s district opener. As always in the 3 team 10th District, each district game, some would say is a MUST WIN! The Lady Mustangs are led by 3RH First Teamer Brooklyn Stewart & Ohio County is led by Ella Decker. With a loss, Muhlenberg County would slip to 0-2 in the district, a feat that you want to do everything in your power to avoid. The District is a coin flip on the Girls side on who the favorite is, with McLean Co possibly being a slim favorite. Ohio County has struggled in recent years but will look to make a statement tonight and start 1-0 in district play.

On the boys side of things, the Ohio/Muhlenberg matchup is a MASSIVE one! The Mustangs are coming in winners of 3 of their last 4 and stand at (3-2, 1-0). This is a Muhlenberg County team that seems to be much improved from a season ago and is led by star Madox Jernigan (18ppg & 4rpg) but have gotten solid contributions from Isaac Coats, Jace Sommers & Madix Brannon. The Defending 10th District Champs are looking to go to 2-0 in the district which would put them in the driver seat of the district standings. Ohio County comes in sputtering due to injuries to 2 of its best players in Elijah Decker & Carson Kennedy. This is an Eagles team that, when healthy, is a consensus contender and one of the favorites to win the 3rd Region. It’s been unfortunate territory for the OC veteran locker room & coaching staff. Injuries are simply out of anyone’s control & ONCE The Eagles get healthy, I wouldn’t want to play them.. Again, this game is a big one & will serve as a huge momentum builder for whichever team prevails! Two schools who make up the biggest rivalry in that district by far, and one of the biggest rivalries in the region in general. Eager to see how things play out at Ohio County High School!
