3RH Game of The Week Previews

3rd Region Hoops— As we wrap up the second week of the season, it’s time for the 2nd 3RH Gams of The Week. This week, Brownsville Kentucky is the destination for both the BOYS & GIRLS Game of The Week. It’s Grayson Co VS Edmonson Co. need we say more? Before we dive into the games, we first want to thank the EC principal Mr Jonathan Williams for helping us promote the Game of The Week, as well as the Edmonson Co Pep Club for their efforts in putting things such as prizes etc together for tonight’s showdown. Thanks also to Gary Highbaugh, who has elected to cover the expenses of our teams supper at Webbs Eats & Treats in Brownsville. Now let’s get to Basketball & we’ll start with the GIRLS game.

Edmonson County (4-0)— The Lady Cats are off to a fast start under first year HC Jody Booth. In their last game, EC defeated Logan County by a final score of 47-40 in overtime, in Russellville KY. Edmonson County is led by budding star, Sophomore Cariann Williams who is averaging 15ppg & 10rpg. Williams is special & impacts the game defensively, in ways very few in the region do. Jenna Cook has had an impressive start to the season, averaging 14ppg & 6rpg. Kenadi Swihart is as tough as nails and comes into tonight’s matchup averaging 10ppg for the ladies in Brownsville. One of the “surprises” of the 2023/24 season thus far has been the emergence of Lady Cat Freshman Shelby Sowders. Sowders is averaging 10ppg & 6rpg & is shooting a team high 51% from the field.

Grayson County (2-1)— Grayson County is someone we’ve been high on since last season, in fact we had them ranked #6 in our preseason poll. The Lady Cougars improved tremendously last season, going from (3-22) in 2021-22 to (11-17) last season. Last season, however, was ended IN BROWNSVILLE as Edmonson Co dominated Grayson in the opening round of the district tournament. This Grayson County team gets better and more experienced and confident with each game. First year HC Michael McClintic’s team is coming off an impressive win at Ohio County on Tuesday night. Grayson Co is the 3RH favorite to win the 12th District this season & they can make us look good by starting district play with a win.

3RH Game Line — Edmonson Co (-4)

Final Take on the game— Edmonson County has the best player on the floor in Cariann Williams. Grayson County’s Sydney Perkins has been solid through 4 games averaging 16ppg but Grayson Co HAS TO get Sutten VanMeter going if they want to win in a hostile environment.

Now to the BOYS SIDE—

Edmonson County (2-2)—The Wildcats have dropped 2 in a row to Cumberland County & Franklin Simpson & Will Alexander hasn’t necessarily got it going just yet. Joshua Decker has been stellar for First Year HC Trey Tinsley, averaging 15ppg & 10rpg. Transfer Wyatt Gravil has been incredibly efficient, averaging 10ppg 4rpg & shooting 60% from the field.

Grayson County (2-1)—Grayson County is off to a solid start under veteran HC Travis Johnston & rolls into Brownsville on a pretty big high, after upsetting Ohio County in Hartford KY on Tuesday. Jack Logsdon comes in leading the Cougars in scoring at 19ppg & Spencer Langdon averages 18 a game. The last time Grayson Co played in Brownsville, they lost in the district tournament to Edmonson Co.

3RH Game Line— Grayson Co (-6)

Final Take on The Game— tonight’s action in Brownsville is highly anticipated. The last time these two rivals squared off, police officers were escorting people out of the gymnasium. Edmonson County needs a big game from its hopeful star, Will Alexander. How does Grayson County carry over from Tuesdays win VS Ohio County, where they shot the ball exceptionally well?

DONT FORGET ABOUT THE PEP MANIA AWARD—

There will be a $50 cash prize given to the EC Student “Fan of The Game” in both the Girls & Boys game.

There will also be a free lunch provided to a separate fan of the night in BOTH games.

3RH Message To The Fans— Grayson & Edmonson, THIS IS YOUR CHANCE to make a statement in who will win the Pep Mania Award at the end of the season. Show up, BE LOUD, & don’t let us down!

BROWNSVILLE, LETS GET IT!
