Trinity’s Landon Huff leaves his mark on Program and Community

Whitesville Trinity’s Landon Huff gathers himself ahead of a free throw attempt at Daviess County High School.

Whitesville KY— When it comes to Boys Basketball in the 3rd Region over the last few years, a name you’ve probably heard a time or two is Landon Huff. The Senior from Whitesville Trinity has been a priority for opposing coaches to hold in check for several years. Whitesville Trinity is one of the “small schools” in the Region & though it doesn’t have the State Tournament Banners, or the Mystic that comes with some of the household names in the region such as an Owensboro High School or Muhlenberg County, Trinity High School, it’s alumni & community are proud of their “small school” and proud of the accomplishments it does have under its belt. Whitesville Trinity is equally proud of Landon Huff who, as we’ve already mentioned, has been one of the top players in the region in recent years. When you think of Whitesville Trinity, Landon Huff’s name comes to mind & rightfully so, as the Senior will go down as one of the best to ever wear the Raider Uniform. Huff’s mark is ALL OVER the Trinity record books as he amassed 1,585 points and 802 Rebounds. When asked about what it’s like to have his name mentioned as one of the best to ever play in the program, Huff says “that to me is an honor. Growing up, going to Trinity games, I looked up to those guys. I know Trinity is a small school, but there’s been some really good players come through here..” Landon also added “it’s not just me, my team deserves the credit as well. The seniors this season deserve the credit. We had one of the best runs this school has ever had. We worked hard and worked well with each other.” You can’t help but notice the humility that comes with Huff. Very quick to point the credit away from himself & toward his teammates. “I love all my teammates I’ve had here throughout my career. Those guys are my brothers. We’ve grown up together and I wouldn’t want to go to battle with anyone else.” Landon also points praise towards his Parents stating “they have supported me in every way imaginable.” When asked what he feels is his biggest accomplishments throughout his career, Landon says “Joining the 1,000 point club. I know that’s not been done by very many players here.” Huff also added “playing for the 12th District Championship last season was huge for our program and community. I know we didn’t win it, but getting there meant so much to our team and community.” Landon Huff could play anywhere in the region, yet the pride he has had in playing for Trinity is apparent. “I love everything about this place. Here at Trinity, they’re my second family. The community is amazing in every way and it’s amazing how they rally behind us student athletes in every sport.” Landon, like many other athletes, is a dual sport star, also playing baseball for the Raiders. When asked about his plans after high school, Huff is still undecided on which route he’ll take, adding “I have played baseball and basketball my entire life. I love both sports and we’re still sorting out which route we’re going to take when it comes to playing at the next level, whether it be baseball or basketball.” Whitesville Trinity Head Boys Coach Nathan West has coached Huff throughout his entire career. Coach West says “Landon has been in the varsity program since the 8th Grade, so I’ve seen how hard he works and the tremendous amounts of progress he’s made throughout the course of his career.” At the conclusion of his 8th Grade year, Coach West says he would’ve never thought Landon would have the career he’s ended up having. Between his Freshman & Sophomore years, West mentions that Huff put in a ton of work and earned a starting spot his sophomore year and as West added, “The rest is history.” Coach West has high praise for the person Landon is on the court, claiming him as a “coaches dream” but also off the court, adding “he is a staple at church and he truly does Love his teammates and community.” To end our conversation with West, he cemented that “ALL of Whitesville will miss watching him play in a Raider Uniform, and he will, without a doubt, go down as one of the best to ever do it at Trinity High School.” Landon Huff’s senior campaign saw him average 16 points per game and 7 rebounds per game. Several different media outlets had Huff on their ALL District Teams and All Region teams. The Community of Whitesville, unfortunately has seen the last of Huff on the hardwood, but his impact will be felt for years to come. Landon states “I hope I set a good example to the young raider kids coming up.” Landon, we can probably speak for the entire community and school in saying YOU HAVE DONE JUST THAT! Congratulations on a decorated career, Landon!
